Computer repair in Toluca Lake. Our client wanted to export her email messages and contacts from Outlook Express 6 to either Windows Vista Mail or Outlook 2007. It seemed like it should be a straight-forward and easy process. It wasn’t.
What we found out was that copying the dbx files from Outlook Express was as simple as copying the files from the folder (you can find it by going to Tools>Maintenance>……….) and then placing them on our external hard drive.
From there we copied the folder with the dbx files to the desktop on our new Vista computer. When we tried to import the files from Mail, it would give us a message saying that it could not find the files or that they were in use. Well we knew they were there and they were not in use.
What ended up working was putting the folder into the public folder and then right clicking on the folder and making sure that the box for Read Only was Unchecked. Then we had to close and re-open Mail. After that, Mail was able to import the dbx files. I guess for some reason, Mail thought the files were in use?
Why make it so hard Microsoft? Those are all your products. You should make it simple for us users.
