Rooting means getting access to the system folders – usually hidden from the user for various reasons. Having root access allows the user to do do more with the device, including breaking or "bricking" it, turning the device into a useless brick. Most of the time, manufacturers prevent root access to protect users from themselves, but many times it's because they don't want the device to have too much functionality. For Amazon, they don't want you being able to install the Barnes and Nobles reader app on their Kindle, nor does Barnes and Nobles want you to download the Kindle app on the Nook.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

How does borrowing books work with the Kindle Fire? Can you only borrow from friends and family like the Nook’s Lend Me feature or can you borrow any book as long as you have an Amazon Prime account?

Another thing to keep in mind is if you are interested in rooting the device and getting a full Android experience, the Nook’s better hardware specs, microphone and expansion capabilities make it a better option for people who are comfortable hacking their devices.

I had the original Nook Color and loved it to death after rooting it. I might have to see what the new one can do – hopefully it can run Android ‘s newest operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Exaclty right joom. That is why it starts faster. It’s the same reason why iTunes starts so fast on Macs. It’s partially pre-loaded since it is closely integrated into the operating system.

I heard about doublemyspeed.com on a news program that I trust, and thought I would give it a look and do the free scan!, Now I cant delete the bastard and have a contstant compaign of fix it which is really buy now and we will return to you the use of your computer! I did not buy, I will not buy, and I just hope this little post warns others of their lying advertising! A Virus would be better, and this is spyware
